October Mitzvah Morning

October 18, 2020 - 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

For our October Mitzvah morning, we will be working with the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI), collecting donations of backpacks and supplies, and then meeting as a team to assemble the backpacks. For some background, CIRI is a statewide nonprofit organization that provides services assisting refugees and immigrants in resolving legal, economic, linguistic and social barriers so that they become self-sufficient, integrated and contributing members of the community. CIRI families have a significant need for health & wellness items, as well as school supplies.

You can purchase items on the Amazon Wishlist which was set up for this event. Just go to the link below, select an item, or items (there are many to choose from), and make the purchase.  Deliveries will go to B’nai Israel, and will be included in the backpacks.  https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/12IZHQ27BJ1MT?ref_=wl_share

In addition to the Amazon Wishlist, people are welcome (and encouraged) to bring items with them on October 18, including:  new or gently used backpacks, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrush & toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, hairbrush, chapstick, security blanket (fleece blanket), stress ball, reusable water bottle, notebook, pens/pencils, granola bars, winter gloves/hat/scarf, towel, coloring book & colored pencils, waterproof file folders.

We’ll meet at B’nai Israel to assemble the backpacks as well as welcome a speaker from CIRI who will tell us more about the mission of the organization and the services they offer. This event will be held outdoors, and will be managed in a safe and socially distanced manner.  Face masks will be required.

This is a wonderful opportunity to bring some good to our local community where it is needed most, as well as reconnect with your fellow congregants. Please join us by signing up in advance here.
