SUMMARY:Rosh Chodesh February/Adar Gathering: “L’chaim and Laughter”
with Cara Erdheim Kilgallen\, Professor at Sacred Heart University
DESCRIPTION:The Hebrew month of Adar\, the month in which we celebrate Puri
m\, is known as a time of merriment\, laughter\, and joy. The Holocaust su
rvivor and psychologist Victor Frankl once wrote that "the ability to laug
h stands as a vital protection of sanity and a mighty form of resistance."
Join us for a special evening with Cara Erdheim Kilgallen\, Jewish profe
ssor at Sacred Heart University and B’nai Israel congregant\, who will e
xplore the centrality of humor\, and Jewish comedy in particular\, to huma
n survival and dignity. As a teacher and scholar of literature\, Cara wil
l speak about how humor studies --an ever-growing field— can enhance us
personally and professionally. As a Jewish professor at a Catholic unive
rsity\, she will also focus on Jewish comedy as a strong source of interfa
ith education\, noting the ways in which humor is one of the most vibrant
vehicles for bridging divides\, unifying communities\, and securing interf
aith or intercultural bonds. As we will discuss and explore\, humor can he
lp us through dark and divisive times\, and laughter is central to lifelon
g learning!\n\nIf you are able\, please bring a light dessert or snack to
share.\n\nPlease RSVP here by February 25th or email Ilene Feuerberg at if
