Meeting with Sherill Baldwin, CT DEEP

What’s In, What’s Out:  An overview of how to keep the recycling stream clean

With Sherill Baldwin from Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and Members of the B’nai Israel Green Team

The following zoom meeting was held on March 8, 2022.

The B’nai Israel Green Team learned all about recycling and were given a general overview of acceptable materials in CT’s mixed recycling program, including: what goes in the bin, what stays out, should we still recycle, and the impact of China’s National Sword on Connecticut’s recycling programs.

Our guest speaker, Sherill Baldwin, has been involved in sustainable materials management for over 30 years, and at CT DEEP (Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) since 2008. Ms. Baldwin’s current projects include the RecycleCT Foundation, CT WRAP initiative and product stewardship programs. She facilitated the creation of a universal list of acceptable recyclables in the state of Connecticut for the What’s IN? What’s OUT? campaign and helps promote the campaign. She received an M.S., in Resource Development from Michigan State University and B.A. in Solid Waste Management from UMASS/Amherst.
