Women’s Rosh Chodesh Adar: Esther and the Things We Wear – Clothing, Costumes and Power

Join us for this very special joint Rosh Chodesh program with Congregation B’nai Israel and Temple Israel, Westport!

See weekly email for Zoom link.

Purim is a day set apart for masks, costumes and revelry. But the ways that Queen Esther “dresses up” and “disguises” herself in order to save her people calls attention to the “costumes” that we also wear on a daily basis. From Esther to our everyday lives, how does clothing inform the outside world of who we are, and who we hope to be? How do our clothes reveal our values? Rabbi Marion and Rabbi Nemitoff-Bresler will explore the connections between clothing and leadership in the Book of Esther, and then Haley Lieberman – founder and CEO of Shop Tomorrows and former stylist and costume designer for stage and screen – will offer a fascinating analysis on the history and the significance behind cultural fashion choices, using scenes from the Biden/Harris Inauguration as the “stage” from which to explore questions of clothing, costumes, and power.
